This is a kit to make a SINGLE DAY USE ultrasound phantom for venous access.
The kit includes everything you need apart from hot water and a mixing bowl and a spoon.
While designed for single use similar models have been used over several weeks. The model holds 7 balloons with two segments thus has 14 veins to practice on.
The balloons provide a realistic pop and flashback. Each balloon used to have cordial to simulate blood but it made the model sticky, so I am using water now and red dye was too messy.
Each balloon is able to be accessed multiple times, so the model may be used over a hundred times. I would not use past two weeks as mould may grow on the model.
The model is also recyclable – simply clean under boiling water to remove the jelly. Then buy some more metamucil packets and jelly crystals and replace the balloons.
The mixture is 5 packets of Jelly 85g, two packet of Metamucil 5.9g and 500ml of boiling water and 250ml of cold water.
The model comes with a food vacuum packing bag. Using a food vacuum packing machines makes the model last longer.
